The Morehouse Council on Aging "Nutrition Service" is a multi-faceted program encompassing programs for a persons nutritional needs. As a person ages, the tendency is to eat less healthy foods, tending toward more quick, or fast food meals. Depending upon the general health of a person, the program can be targeted to sustaining a person in their home. The "Nutrition Services Program" has been broken into several areas to attain the best health and wellness for the individual client.
 

"CONGREGATE NUTRITION" Program: The "Congregate Nutrition" program is a program providing nutritionally balanced meals to persons over the age of 60, and their spouse in a congregate setting. This meal meets one-third (1/3) of the RDA (Recommended Dietary Council) per meal 5 days a week. This is provided in secure, pleasant surroundings with organized activities.

 

"HOME DELIVERED NUTRITION" Program: The "Home Delivered Nutrition" program is a program providing home delivery of nutritionally balanced meals to persons over the age of 60, and their spouses in some cases, who are homebound through illness, or other incapacitating situation.  This meal meets one-third (1/3) of the RDA (Recommended Dietary Council, Food and Nutrition Board, National Academy of Sciences - National Research Council) per meal. This is provided through delivery times established with the client, and which meal service that they choose.

 

 "NUTRITION COUNSELING" PROGRAM: The "Nutrition Counseling" program is a program aimed at providing nutritional counseling to an individual client to enhance their nutritional health. A Registered, Licensed Nutritionist can provide counseling to an individual client about eating habits, nutritional meals, weight loss or gain, nutrient analysis, and planned meals.

 

"NUTRITION EDUCATION" PROGRAM:  The "Nutrition Education" program provides nutrition educational materials to individuals and group clients concerning meals, food items, cooking for one person, food interactions, dietary supplements, and nutritional goals. A Registered, Licensed Nutritionist provides these materials, as well as the agency form various services.

 Programs are provided in the Bastrop Nutrition Center, Collinston Nutrition Center, and the individual clients home. The Bastrop Nutrition Center is open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A set donation is requested for the services in order to expand the service, and upkeep the equipment.
